    Psalms For The Church's Year

Roger Heagney is a prolific liturgical composer and has gained an international reputation as a pianist, harpsichordist, conductor and composer.

He instituted the degree course in Church Music taught, until recently, as the Bachelor of Music at Australian Catholic University where he lectured in keyboard performance, music language studies, composition, choral training and conducting.

During his thirty-two years as Director of Music at St Francis' Church, Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, the St Francis' Choir gained a considerable reputation. Most of his compositions for liturgical use were written during this time, including psalm settings, Mass settings and liturgical chants.

Twenty-three of his compositions were published in the Catholic Worship Book hymnal in 1985, and 􀀏ve of his psalm settings were published in the Gather Australia hymnal in 1995. These hymnals have now been out of print for many years. A collection of many of his psalms and hymns were published in 2002 under the title "Psalms for the Church's Year." Many of his published psalm settings became popular and continue to be sung throughout Australia today.

Liturgical Song is privileged to publish Roger Heagney's liturgical music catalogue and make his compositions available once again. In this second edition of "Psalms for the Church's Year" we have revised and updated their presentation. Also available in "Masses for the Church's Year" are two new Mass settings for general parish use. His choral and orchestral arrangements are available in "For Choirs, Volume 3" and "For Conductors, Volume 2".
